The Teacher Tally was developed to help communities determine how students get to and from school each day. This information provides the baseline data needed to determine any change (increase ideally) in walking or bicycling to and from school to help evaluate the effectiveness of the I-WALK program over the short term as well as long term.
What the Teacher Tally asks of teachers: Teachers ask students how they got to and from school each day over the course of three days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). The teacher will list the different ways students could get to school and with a show of hands the students indicate how they got to and from school. The teacher then records information along with the weather for that day on the tally sheet. Individual students are not identified on the tally sheet, only aggregate data is recorded.
